Lucknow: National magazine Fame India, known for conducting independent surveys on social issues, public personalities, and governance, has named Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut as the “Most Courageous Member of Parliament” in the country.
According to the magazine, the recognition highlights Raut’s outspoken parliamentary interventions, consistent engagement with public issues, and influential role in India’s political discourse. A journalist, author, editor, and politician, Raut has established himself as one of the country’s most prominent political voices through his active participation in Parliament and regular public engagement.
Born on November 15, 1961, in Alibag, Maharashtra’s Raigad district, Raut graduated from the University of Mumbai before beginning his career in journalism. He joined Saamana, the Shiv Sena’s party newspaper, where he eventually became Executive Editor. Besides his editorial work, he has authored several books and contributed to the screenplay of the biographical film Thackeray.
Raut was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2004 and has since been re-elected four times, representing Maharashtra for over two decades. Following the split in the Shiv Sena in 2022, he became the leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT) Parliamentary Party in the Rajya Sabha and has remained one of the party’s principal strategists and national spokespersons.
Fame India highlighted Raut’s parliamentary performance, citing data from PRS India that indicates he has asked more than 1,900 questions in the Rajya Sabha and participated in 159 debates. While his attendance has been around 68 percent, the magazine noted that he has consistently raised questions across a broad spectrum of national issues, including healthcare, education, agriculture, railways, civil aviation, energy, environment, urban development, labour, tourism, telecommunications, and industrial growth.
The publication also noted that Raut has consistently raised issues concerning Maharashtra, including farmers’ welfare, water scarcity in Marathwada and Vidarbha, Mumbai’s infrastructure, railway projects, industrial investment, logistics, urban transport, and economic development. It said his efforts have focused on bringing state-specific concerns into the national policy framework.

Beyond Parliament, Raut is widely recognised for his regular media interactions and forthright political commentary. The magazine observed that his ability to articulate complex political issues in a clear and accessible manner has made him one of the country’s most recognised political communicators.
The report further highlighted his participation in debates on constitutional governance, federalism, democratic institutions, internal security, economic policy, foreign affairs, social justice, GST on health insurance, delimitation, and the functioning of key ministries. It also acknowledged his contributions to several parliamentary committees, including those dealing with Home Affairs, External Affairs, Food and Consumer Affairs, and Civil Aviation.
According to Fame India, Raut has also utilised the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) to recommend projects aimed at improving educational infrastructure, healthcare facilities, drinking water supply, community assets, and public utilities across Maharashtra. The magazine added that he remained actively involved in strengthening local healthcare infrastructure during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The publication concluded that Sanjay Raut’s blend of parliamentary activism, political communication, and continued engagement with journalism and literature has earned him a distinctive place in contemporary Indian politics. The recognition reflects Fame India’s assessment and is based on its independent survey and editorial evaluation.
